MG Comet EV: Long Term Update – 2,055km

It’s my favourite city car!

Out of everyone in the office, I have the longest and most frustrating commutes. So it was a no-brainer that I sweet-talk Ben into letting me use the MG Comet. I am also known as a black hole when it comes to fuel efficiency as the cars I drive deliver the least fuel economy (How that happens is one of the biggest mysteries of life). The jinx seems to have broken as I am comfortably and consistently getting a range of over 200km so I only have to charge the Comet once every four days. Running the Comet is as affordable as running my scooter!

Back to my commute! I travel 25km one way through one of the busiest roads of Pune, a place that’s guaranteed to have a traffic jam exactly during the time of my office commutes. To counter this, I have come up with a novel idea. Since the main road is jam packed due to multiple junctions, I take the bylanes that connect to the main road at various places, like veins to an artery. The first thing I do once I get into the car in the morning, is to pull up Google Maps on the screen and plan my route. It does take me through some narrow alleyways, places barely enough for a car and a half to pass through. I don’t mind though. The Comet is slightly larger than an autorickshaw and coupled with its light steering, quite easy to manoeuvre in narrow lanes.

Despite the compact dimensions, it is quite spacious inside and I, on multiple occasions, have ferried four people around the city in it. My daughter absolutely loves the Comet’s design and bright Lime Green shade, as do the other kids in the society.

The MG Comet is turning out to be a fantastic city car. It’s easy to drive in traffic, easy to park and can comfortably seat four. The feature-packed interiors are the cherry on top!
