Mercedes-AMG has introduced the latest addition to its iconic SL series – the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE. Boasting a unique hybrid technology, the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE is positioned as the most powerful member of the SL family, featuring a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine combined with the AMG Electric Drive Unit. This duo generates an output of 816PS and a maximum torque of up to 1,420Nm, making it the most potent SL in history.

Mercedes-AMG says the E PERFORMANCE hybrid technology, now in its fifth series, provides an immediate response from the electric drive, rapid torque build-up, and linear power delivery, promising an impressive driving experience. The SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE accelerates to 100kmph in just 2.9 seconds, reaching a top speed of 317kmph. The AMG Active Ride Control suspension, featuring active roll stabilisation and active rear-axle steering, balances between comfort and driving dynamics.

E PERFORMANCE integrates a 150kW electric motor on the rear axle, connected to a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine on the front axle. This setup allows for a direct conversion of power into propulsion, providing an extra boost during acceleration, overtaking, or starting off. The AMG High Performance battery, inspired by Formula 1 hybrid technology, offers a capacity of 6.1 kWh, 70 kW continuous power, and 150 kW peak power. The battery’s direct cooling ensures optimal power delivery, influencing performance, service life, and safety.

Visually, the SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE looks distinct with an integrated plug-in flap, a red-highlighted model name, and trapezoidal twin tailpipe trims. The “E PERFORMANCE” fender badge and 20-inch multi-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels further emphasise the hybrid drive.

The inside is driver-focused, featuring electrically adjustable AMG sports seats, with an option for AMG performance seats. The MBUX multimedia system includes hybrid-specific displays, showcasing the power flow of the drive system.

Active aerodynamics, fine-tuned for electrified drive technology, contribute to balanced driving behaviour according to Mercedes-AMG. The active rear-axle steering and the AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system are optional.

With the Mercedes-AMG having already brought the SL 55 model to India, we can only hope the most powerful SL model arrives on our shores soon.
