Maruti Suzuki Fronx becomes the fastest car to achieve sales of one lakh units

The SUV reached the sales milestone in 10 months

Maruti Suzuki launched its SUV, the Fronx in April 2023. Since then, the car has gone on to sell one lakh units in just 10 months. The car competes in the compact SUV segment against the likes of the Tata Punch, Citroën C3 and the Hyundai Exter.

The Fronx has been essential in increasing Maruti Suzuki’s SUV segment share to 19.7 percent in CY2023 from 10.4 percent a year prior. The Fronx’s automatic variants have contributed to 24 percent of the car’s total sales. The car’s 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine has witnessed considerable demand. Setting sights out of India as well, the carmaker has also started exports of the Fronx, with over 9,000 units exported to markets in Latin America, the Middle East, and South-East Asia.

The Fronx has three powertrain options in the form of a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which can also be optioned with a factory-fitted CNG kit and the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.2-litre engine can be paired with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT while the CNG kit only gets the 5-speed manual. The turbocharged engine gets the option of a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

The Fronx has features like a heads-up display with turn-by-turn navigation, a 360-degree camera, a wireless smartphone charger and a 9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The SUV’s prices start from Rs 7.47 lakh and go up to Rs 12.98 lakh, ex-showroom.
