Maruti Suzuki is manufacturing its first electric vehicle, the e Vitara, in India for the global markets; however, the company has revealed some key details about the India-spec e Vitara, which will be launched in the first quarter of calendar year 2026. And here is the lowdown.
Battery Pack, Range and Charging Infrastructure
Maruti Suzuki revealed that its first electric car, the e Vitara, will come with two battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh. In terms of range, Maruti stated the official ARAI-rated range of up to 543km. However, the larger picture consists of the fact that Maruti Suzuki will offer the e Vitara with Battery-as-a-service or BaaS option, an assured buyback programme for end-of-life vehicles and a subscription plan. These measures will make the e Vitara highly competitive on pricing. To support the EV charging infrastructure, Maruti Suzuki has set up more than 2,000 chargers across 1,100 cities in the country, in association with multiple energy solutions providers. Maruti Suzuki also announced their plan to expand the number of charging stations to over 1,00,000 by 2030.
Safety and sales
Maruti Suzuki also announced that the e Vitara has scored five stars in the BNCAP tests for both adult and child occupant protection, which should reassure buyers who are sceptical about EV safety. Maruti Suzuki will start bookings for the e Vitara from January 2026, and deliveries will follow soon.
Pricing
As for pricing, Maruti Suzuki did not reveal anything, but given the BaaS option and the smaller 49kWh battery pack, it is safe to say it will be highly competitive.
Maruti Suzuki is also organising a national drive with the e Vitara to showcase it and also talk about its charging infrastructure setup to promote electric mobility in India. TURBOCHARGED will be part of this drive and we will be putting the e Vitara through its paces in the magnificent union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. So watch this space for more information about the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and our time with it.
