The past few months, pretty much every time I’ve been travelling, the team has been fighting over the keys of the DZire. A big reason behind this, besides the car’s excellent comfort and spaciousness, is its ultra-efficient petrol engine. While diesel cars still rule the roost as far as fuel efficiency is concerned, besides strong hybrids of course, a car like the DZire is worth its weight in gold, given how efficient its petrol engine is, because the car’s overall fuel efficiency (city + highway driving) has been above 20kmpl consistently! I’m also not surprised that for the first time in about half a decade, the DZire was the highest selling car in India for the month of May 2025.

This is a feat the compact sedan held onto for a long time until five years ago, but rising demand and the steady influx of SUV-styled cars saw it step down from its perch of being India’s best selling passenger car. The new DZire has a lot going for it besides the stellar fuel efficiency, like its heightened sense of premiumness inside-out, the features, spacious cabin and overall sense of comfort, and these are just some of the reasons behind it reclaiming its title in my books.
