Mahindra has launched the XEV 9S starting at ₹ 19.95 lakh, ex-showroom. This is its first family-oriented SUV that is completely electric . It has three rows of seats, while offering the performance and refinement of a battery electric vehicle. It competes with the likes of the Kia Carens Clavis EV, Tata Harrier EV and Innova Hycross Hybrid.
The base XEV 9S has a 59 kWh battery pack, while there is the option of a 79 kWh battery pack as well for ₹ 21.95 lakh ex-showroom. Performance is provided via a 286 PS/380 Nm motor that gets it from 0-100 kmph in just 7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 202 kmph. There are four drive modes and five regen levels.
The XEV 9S gets a whole battery of features, with screens and electronics that compete with the best in class, and even a segment above. There is ample space as well: Mahindra claims class-leading passenger space, even for the third row. With the third row folded, you have 527 litres of boot space at the rear, and the absence of a traditional engine bay gives it a 150 litre storage space in the front as well. Opting for the various feature packs can drive the price to as high as ₹ 29.45 lakh, although it offers features comparable to much more expensive luxury SUVs at the price, so it remains excellent value.
