Mahindra launched its first Electric Origin vehicles last November. The BE6 and XEV 9e were the first battery electric vehicles from the brand, and they have gone from an alternate choice to a primary car in many households. As per Mahindra’s data, some of their cars have crossed 50,000 km in seven months, with a larger number crossing 20,000 km in a few months. Around 60 percent of these vehicles are managing over 500 km on a single charge at city speeds – that is, at speeds below 100 kmph. Even when the conversation shifts to the highway, the stats are impressive. 30 percent of owners have done 400 km in a single day.

The BE6 and XEV 9e have also contributed to pop culture: the BE6 was featured in the video game BGMI, and it was the first vehicle ever, globally, to put out a Batman edition. Mahindra’s efforts have resulted in some startling figures – over 80 percent of Mahindra’s electric vehicles are new to the brand. We can see the appeal of these SUVs. We drove them last November and came away thoroughly impressed.
