Lexus has launched their first all-electric vehicle, the ES 500e, first revealed in April 2025, the eighth-gen model comes with a completely new, sharper design and added tech. The new ES is built on a redesigned TNGA GA-K platform, developed specifically to accommodate both HEV and BEV powertrains.
On the outside, the new Lexus ES has ditched the Lexus spindle grille; instead, there is a smooth centre with an air intake below it surrounded by diamond patterns. It hosts a new twin L-shaped LED design with integrated turn signals, with the main headlight unit placed beneath it, concealed in gloss black trim. At the side, it gets an updated alloy wheel design and a large aerodynamic crease with gloss black trim, and a sloping roof line. At the back, it gets a new sleek LED light bar with illuminated ‘Lexus’ lettering inside, with L-shaped reflectors below it. The Lexus ES has also grown in size, It is now 165 mm longer, 55 mm wider, and its height has increased by 115 mm. Additionally, the wheelbase has increased by 80 mm.

On the inside, the interior is clean and minimal, with a 14-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will also receive OTA updates, and most of the interior functionality is baked into it. The driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a Head-Up Display. The center console features touch capacitive buttons for temperature control, defogger, camera view, etc. It gets a three-spoke steering wheel with physical controls, front-powered seats with memory and massage function, along with boss mode, configurable ambient lighting, electrochromatic glass roof, connected car tech, ADAS, electronic parking brake, Mark Levinson surround sound system, and electric doors with soft close.
The new Lexus ES 500e is powered by a 74.7kWh battery pack with dual motors, producing a combined 342PS and a total range of 580 kilometers. The battery supports up to 150 kW of DC fast charging that can top up 10-80 percent of charge in just 30 minutes. Lexus is offering an 11 kW AC home charger as standard with the car. The car also comes with a staggering 8-year/2,00,000km warranty and assured buyback at 60 percent at the 3-year mark (with less than 30,000km on the clock).
The older ES 300h will continue to be on sale alongside the ES 500e. As the platform on which the ES 500e is based can accommodate both hybrid and electric power trains, we can expect a hybrid EX soon from the manufacturer, as it is already available in the foreign market. With a price tag of ₹89.99 lakh ex-showroom, the Lexus ES 500e competes in the luxury electric sedan segment, with the likes of Mercedes-Benz EQS and BMW I4.
