In 1989 Lexus stepped up and challenged the European luxury automotive manufacturers like Audi, Mercedes, and BMW. Unfortunately this rivalry has come to an end, because the LS has been discontinued.
The first-generation Lexus introduced in 1989 was timeless and stylish. The car was powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine, which was very reliable and powerful. In the following years, the LS platform had advanced drivetrains and technology, including AWD, hybrid systems, adaptive suspension, and advanced safety systems. Over time Lexus gained a very good reputation regarding quality and customer satisfaction.

In September 2025 Lexus unveiled the 2026 LS 500 AWD Heritage edition as a final-year tribute to the car that birthed the brand. It is limited only to 250 units in the USA, where it is offered in a single spec. It features an exclusive exterior colour “Ninety Noir” paired with the LS-first Rioja Red interior.
We’re sad that we never got to see the LS officially in India, and we now never will. It echoes everything we dream of in an Indian luxury car, except maybe ‘kitna deti hain’!
