Lenovo Legion 7i The Sleek Powerhouse

The Lenovo Legion 7i boasts a sleek design and solid build, delivering an impressive display and outstanding performance for its price.

The Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 9 gaming laptop, priced at Rs. 2,01,999, delivers robust performance for playing today’s games within a relatively portable 16-inch design. Equipped with an Intel Core i7 HX-class processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 graphics, it offers impressive power. The Legion features a premium metal chassis and per-key RGB keyboard lighting, enhancing its high-quality feel for the price.

Design and Build:
The Legion boasts a sleek yet durable design, showcasing Lenovo’s emphasis on quality construction. Its minimalist look, finished in matte Eclipse Black, exudes a refined elegance while still appealing to gamers. Crafted from aluminium, the chassis provides a solid, premium feel without being too heavy, making it a surprisingly portable option for a gaming laptop.

Display:
The laptop gets a 16-inch 3.2K IPS display with 430 nits of brightness that is also anti-glare, a 100% DCI P3 colour gamut that covers 25% more colours than sRGB which results in more natural colour and in our case better and more natural colour grading. The refresh rate, often around 165Hz, which means smoother gameplay and a more immersive experience for fast-paced games.

Performance:
Powered by the 14th generation Intel Core i7 HX processor, the Lenovo Legion delivers brilliant performance for both gaming and productivity tasks. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 offers outstanding gaming capabilities, handling most modern titles at medium to high settings with very stable frame rates. Additionally, the laptop’s multi-core CPU excels in multitasking and running demanding applications, which makes running the heaviest of programmes be it video editing or rendering the magazine a child’s play.

Thermals and Cooling:
Lenovo has designed the Legion with an efficient cooling system featuring multiple heat pipes and dual fans. This configuration effectively manages heat dissipation, helping to keep the laptop cool during prolonged gaming sessions. While fan noise is noticeable under heavy load, it remains at a manageable level, ensuring relatively quiet operation during typical usage. The on/off switch has a ring light surrounding it that changes colour to blue/red/white as per fan settings.

Keyboard:
One of my most favourite things about the Lenovo Legion is its keyboard. The keys are well spaced, offer a good tactile feedback and are comfortable for long typing sessions and gaming, the keyboard also gets customisable RGB backlights which can be customised key wise or even according to the music. The touchpad is responsive and supports multi-touch gestures, although most gamers would likely prefer using an external mouse for better precision.

Battery Life:
Battery life is often a compromise for gaming laptops, and the Lenovo Legion is no different. With moderate use—such as web browsing, video playback, and light productivity tasks—the laptop provides approximately 6 hours of battery life. However, engaging in intensive gaming will considerably shorten this duration, so it’s advisable to keep it plugged in for uninterrupted gameplay.

Connectivity & Ports:
The Legion doesn’t falls short of ports and comes with two USB-A ports (both USB 3.2 Gen 1 at 5Gbps, one of which is Always On), two USB-C ports (one at 5Gbps with USB 3.2 Gen 1, and another at 10Gbps with USB 3.2 Gen 2 supporting Lenovo PD 140W and DisplayPort 1.4), one Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 port (40Gbps, with PD 140W and DisplayPort 1.4), an HDMI 2.1 port (up to 8K/60Hz), a 3.5mm headphone/microphone combo jack, a card reader, and a power connector.

Gaming & Editing:
We put the Lenovo Legion 7 16IRX9 through its paces with Nioh, Forza 5, and some photo and video editing in Lightroom and Premiere Pro. The gaming experience was smooth, with no noticeable frame drops, and the Legion handled it effortlessly. Editing in Lightroom felt quick and responsive, and Premiere Pro ran seamlessly, allowing for smooth, uninterrupted workflows.

Overall, the Lenovo Legion 7 16IRX9 is a standout option for both gamers and creative professionals. Its strong performance, sleek design, and advanced features make it a reliable powerhouse for demanding tasks and gaming alike. Whether you’re pushing through heavy workloads or playing the latest titles, this laptop is equipped to handle anything with ease.  It is one of the best options available under the 2,00,000/- bracket and who knows you might even get a decent deal during this festive season.
