We had a chat with Mr. Muzammil Riyaz, Founder, EVeium Smart Mobility to gain valuable insights into their organization and the current state of electric vehicle (EV) developments in India.

How does EVeium Smart Mobility stand out from other EV players?

EVeium, founded in 2022 and headquartered in Hyderabad, is the complete Made-in-India EV two-wheeler brand of Ellysium Automotives, the auto arm of the United Arab Emirates-based META4 Group. ELLYSIUM Automotives has comprehensive market expertise in the sector of EV manufacturing and distribution, and under their supervision, EVeium intends to make broader headway into established markets while also exploring newer ones. Additionally, while other competitors seek to dominate the EV market by merely marketing on green energy, EVeium’s product value also addresses other EV market impediments. The two most significant barriers to the country’s transition to electric vehicles, as per industry leaders, are safety and range. EVeium two-wheelers are therefore designed with the understanding that India is unique, with considerable differences in temperature, geography, and road conditions across regions. As EVeium’s testing standards are rigorous, its product portfolio is safe and fast when compared to competitors.

What kind of response have you received for the three scooters you launched? Would you share booking/sales numbers?

EVeium introduced itself in the Indian market by unveiling three high-speed two-wheelers to compete in the already congested two-wheeler segment. COSMO, COMET, and CZAR, with prices ranging between Rs 1.44 lakh and Rs 2.16 lakh, have provided stiff competition to the market offerings of the big players. To date, EVeium has sold over 1000 electric scooters through its 11 dealership networks across Rajamundhry- Andhra Pradesh; Pune- Maharashtra; Nashik- Maharashtra; Malegaon- Maharashtra; Solapur- Maharashtra; Bengaluru- Karnataka; Hyderabad- Telangana; Calicut- Telangana and others cities.

What are the company’s expansion plans (geographically and manufacturing)?

The enthusiastic reaction to EVeium’s product portfolio prompted it to open showrooms in several cities across India. To cater to the increasing demand, the EV Startup will now be available to customers in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Goa, and the surrounding regions of Telangana, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Furthermore, the brand intends to open 100-plus showrooms across India by the end of 2023, as well as expand its product portfolio in various categories and establish itself in new geographies in the Indian subcontinent.

How does consumer buying behaviour differ for EVs in comparison to their ICE counterparts?

The ever-increasing environmental concerns induced by fossil fuel depletion and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have led buyers to consider Electric Vehicles (EV) as a rapidly emerging operational alternative to vehicles that run on fossil fuels such as gasoline, diesel, and compressed natural gas (CNG). Subsequently, the solid platform established by EV players for India to rapidly transition away from ICE towards EVs by delivering high-quality, affordable, and accessible two-wheelers is also contributing to the cause. Moreover, stylish EV models outfitted with technologically advanced formulas and eco-friendly features are preferred by the millennial population.’

How do you ensure battery safety in EVeium Smart Mobility electric two-wheelers to make sure no incidents of fire can occur?

The safety of its clients is the highest priority for EVeium. EVeium works closely with battery vendors while also assessing and improving the performance and safety of its EVs. Several security measures are in place to achieve this goal, including the vehicle’s BMS, cell selection, and thermal management. Since EVeium’s testing protocols and benchmarks take into account a variety of key variables, its product line is safe in comparison to other market players’ offerings. Additionally, the EV brand is working diligently to educate customers about safety precautions.

How many dealerships do you have currently and what is the expansion plan for them?

As aforementioned EVeium has 11 dealerships networks set up across Rajamundhry- Andhra Pradesh; Pune- Maharashtra; Nashik- Maharashtra; Malegaon- Maharashtra; Solapur- Maharashtra; Bengaluru- Karnataka; Hyderabad- Telangana; Calicut- Telangana and others cities. The brand has plans to open 100-plus showrooms across India by the end of 2023.

How do you make sure of the after-sales service and parts availability for the consumers?

First and foremost, when compared to gasoline engines, electric two-wheelers have less wear and tear, require minimal servicing, and typically require fewer warrantable fixes. Customers find these to be a valuable selling point for EV scooters. To enhance the customer experience, EVeium has a solid after-sales service network which provides end-to-end solutions in areas such as battery testing and recharging; high voltage electric cabling checks and works; tyre replacement; suspension checks; brake checks; wheels, lights, and all associated works. Moreover, EVeium has implemented advanced tech to optimize parts stock levels to meet customers’ needs in a timely and cost-effective manner.
