Hyundai Onboards 20 Para-Athletes Under ‘Samarth’ Program

Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) has announced the onboarding of 20 para-athletes for three years under its Samarth Para-Sports Programme. This initiative, in collaboration with GoSports Foundation, is part of Hyundai Motor India Limited’s broader ‘Samarth by Hyundai’ initiative. The programme aims to provide comprehensive support to para-athletes, fostering inclusivity and excellence in sports.

The programme includes financial aid, sports science guidance, access to assistive devices, soft skill development assistance, and mentorship from coaches and experts. It covers eight sports categories: Para-Athletics, Para-Swimming, Para-Badminton, Wheelchair Tennis, Para-Archery, Para-Rowing, Para-Canoeing, and Para-Cycling. The selected athletes include 15 emerging and 5 elite para-athletes from across India. They will receive resources and mentorship to excel at a global level.

Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India Limited, stated that the Samarth Para-Sports Programme aligns with their vision of fostering an inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Deepthi Bopaiah, CEO of GoSports Foundation, emphasized their aim to establish a platform for para-athletes to reach the pinnacle of para-sports, including the Paralympics.

The Samarth Para-Sports Programme aims to enhance India’s stature on the global stage by creating opportunities and inspiring future generations to pursue excellence.

Launched in November 2023, the ‘Samarth by Hyundai’ initiative aims to create a more aware and sensitized society towards people with disabilities in India. Hyundai Motor India Limited is working to ensure its digital presence and physical business locations are accessible to all. Additionally, the company has introduced Turn Plus, a swivel seat accessory to enhance the differently-abled friendliness of cars and is committed to developing more such devices.
