The Harley-Davidson X440 is about to get a new variant, called the Harley-Davidson X440 T. While the motorcycle will most likely be mechanically identical to the existing X440, we can’t rule out the possibility of a ride-by-wire throttle being present, as the prominent throttle cable of the X440 is absent on the X440 T. But the most noteworthy change is how the rear three-quarter has been redesigned.

Gone are the exposed rear subframe — a straight line of metal — on which the curved rear fender was suspended, along with the standalone tail lamp; it is now neatly integrated into the tail. Additionally, the upper mounting points of the rear sock absorbers are now a visual element, separating the midsection of the bike from the tail section and creating a more cohesive design. The colours are new as well, with only the black being somewhat similar to the black on the top ‘S’ variant. The X440 T introduces white and blue shades not offered on other trims.

The bike maker has not revealed where in the line-up the X440 T is going to slot in, but we have a sneaking suspicion that it will be at the beginning in terms of price. The reasoning behind our thinking is two-fold. The first one is the fact that the Hero Mavrick is currently not on sale in the country, and that opens up a price point for the Harley-Davidson X440 to occupy, which it couldn’t have done previously, owing to cannibalisation of sales between the Hero and the H-D. The second one is that the name, X440 T, seems directly inspired by the Triumph Speed T4, which slots below the Speed 400 in pricing and occupies a part of the price spectrum that’s nearly identical to the erstwhile Hero Mavrick.

The X440 T is slated to be launched next week, when all will be revealed, including the front of the motorcycle.
