Trivandrum 15th February 2024: India’s most desirable luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India proudly commemorates a decade of collaboration with Kerala’s premier engineering college, Government Engineering College Barton Hill (GECBH), through the coveted Advanced Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics (ADAM) Course. This significant milestone reflects a deep commitment and common vision of Mercedes-Benz and GECBH, in fostering skilled workforce, make them future ready and employable and contribute to the vision of Skill India initiative in Kerela. ADAM course is part of Mercedes-Benz India’s social initiative project, contributing back to the society.
The ADAM course had been curated to impart a holistic understanding of the latest automotive mechatronics and cutting-edge EV technologies, at par with global industry standards. In 2012, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Mercedes-Benz India Limited and the Government of Kerala laid the foundation for the ADAM Course in the region. The subsequent inauguration of the ADAM Centre in 2014 marked the beginning of a transformative industry-academic educational partnership combining theoretical knowledge with practical industry expertise.
Commemorating the occasion, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India stated, “We take immense pride in completing 10 years of partnership with Government Engineering College Barton Hill, conducting the highly coveted Advanced Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics (ADAM) course. ADAM course has been cornerstone in the industry-academic partnership in Kerala, creating highly skilled professionals with unmatched competencies in mechatronics and automotive engineering. With the recent introduction of an industry-first EV module in the ADAM course at GECBH, Mercedes-Benz further upskills the students, making them ‘future ready’, at the same time contributing to the creation of a robust ecosystem for EV. These 10 successful years of collaboration reiterates Mercedes-Benz’s culture of pursuing excellence and progress through research and innovation. We share the common vision with GECBH, enabling aspiring students with a transformative journey towards realizing their career aspirations, while making a valuable contribution for the future of the automotive industry.”
Dr. Shiny G., Principal of Government Engineering College Barton Hill, stated, “Since its inception in 2014, the ADAM course has garnered unparalleled success among students aspiring to forge a career in the automobile industry. The hands-on, practical training experience has proven to be a boon, not only enhancing their learning but also significantly elevating their job prospects. The ADAM Course stands as a transformative force within our institution, equipping students with the knowledge and skills essential to excel in the dynamic field of automotive engineering. As we celebrate this milestone, we eagerly anticipate the continuation of our collaborative efforts with Mercedes-Benz. We are committed to delivering industry-expected skills, ensuring our students remain at the forefront of the ever-evolving automotive landscape.”
The decade-long evolution of the GECBH–ADAM is marked with milestones that reflect the unwavering dedication to cultivating future leaders. Responding to the demand for skilled professionals, the ADAM Course expanded its annual intake from 20 to 40 students in 2019, allowing for the training of two batches annually. Since its inception, the ADAM Course has successfully guided 215 students to completion across 13 batches, embodying a legacy of educational excellence and achievement.
The GECBH ADAM Centre stands out with its three training cars, highly qualified and trained full-time ADAM Trainers, and excellent infrastructure. A rigorous admission process ensures that only the best 20 students out of 60-70 applicants are admitted, maintaining the program’s high standards. The curriculum of the ADAM Course covers Mechanical, Electrical, and System modules, industry-relevant plant visits, and a recent introduction of an Electric Vehicle (EV) module. This forward-thinking approach aligns with the vision for the future of mobility and prepares students for the challenges of the evolving automotive landscape.
Introduced in 2006, ADAM course is an initiative by Mercedes-Benz focused on building competencies and skills. It has been successfully operational in eight technical institutions in Trivandrum, Bangalore, Aurangabad, Pune, Ghaziabad, New Delhi and Greater Noida. Over 200+ students have benefited from the ADAM course since its inception and have been placed in important positions in India and abroad in the automotive industry.
