Each team has eight riders, two each in four different classes

Ceat Indian Supercross Racing League is gearing up for the first season of the first-ever franchisee-based supercross racing league in the world. The rider auctions concluded recently, which means all six teams are ready to go racing. The action is set to begin in the latter half of January, with the exact dates yet to be confirmed.

The racing will be in four different classes – 450cc international, 250cc international, 250cc India/Asia and 85cc India/Asia. The motorcycles are the standard supercross bikes used in international racing, so the specs are top-notch.

Here’s a brief overview of the teams:

Panchshil Racing:
Owned by Atul Chirodia of Pune-based Panchshil Realty. He is the chairman of the group as well as a biking enthusiast.

SG Speed Racers:
Led by Mr Sanjay Gupta, CMD, APL Apollo Group. The team is under the sports arm of the Apollo group, makers of structural steel tubing.

Gujarat Trailblazers:
The brainchild of none other than Gaurav Gill, 3-time Asia-Pacific Rally Champion, and Dhrumil Patel, serial entrepreneur.

BigRock Motorsports:
This team has a three-pronged leadership – CS Santosh, the first Indian to compete in the Dakar Rally and multiple-time national supercross champion, N Gautam, a sports entrepreneur and Uday Shankar, Director of BigRock Dirt Park.

Mohite’s Racing:
Run by Mr Abhishek Mohite, a passionate motorsports enthusiast who also leads the Mohite Group

Reise MotoSports:
This team is owned by Mahansaria Group’s Reise Moto brand, the latest entrant in the high-performance two-wheeler tyre market of India.

We are excited about some high-flying supercross action, and who knows, this might prompt Indian manufacturers to focus on developing 450cc and 250cc motocross bikes, like Triumph has done recently and Ducati announced they will be doing soon.
