Dashboard cameras have come a long way — from people watching dashcam footage videos on YouTube once in a while to actually using one on a daily basis in Indian conditions. It is owed to what a dashcam offers, ‘convenience’! Be it an insurance claim, legal proof in case of accidents or simply recording one’s travel footage, dashcams offer great value to the user.
There are multiple manufacturers offering different types of dashcams for different budgets. Boult is one such manufacturer that has been making some impressive dashcams for some time now.
The Cruisecam X5 Pro is the latest offering from Boult and promises to offer a top quality dashcam experience with its dual-camera setup. The front camera is capable of recording 4K footage with its 8MP sensor and also takes detailed high-resolution photos, which can be helpful in a variety of occasions or documentation involving road incidents. The rear camera has a 2MP sensor with 1080p Full-HD resolution capability, which also churns out decent quality videos.
Powering the front camera is the Sony Starvis IMX415 sensor, which increases the camera’s capability of producing detailed images and videos. Couple it with the X5’s night vision capabilities and you have detailed and clear footage even in low light conditions. Additionally, both the camera units have a 140-degree field of view, which helps cover the entire front and rear ends of the car.
The X5 Pro is also equipped with a collision detection system and a G-sensor, enabling it to automatically initiate emergency video recording when it detects sudden braking or abrupt changes in the G-force. However, we didn’t get to test this feature (thankfully), but it does seem like an important add on. The camera also records trip data thanks to its GPS-logging facility and integrates it with the recorded footage simultaneously.
Also notable is the in-built display, which makes viewing footage, accessing settings and operating the camera very easy. The Cruisecam X5 Pro supports Micro SD cards with class 10, U3 and V30 ratings. These cards support faster video processing speeds, thus allowing the camera to record smoothly. At a price of ₹ 12,999 with an included one-year warranty, the Boult Cruisecam X5 Pro is a good value for money proposition for people considering dual dashcams.
