BMW has officially taken full control of Alpina, bringing the long-running performance brand fully under its ownership from January 2026. While BMW acquired Alpina in 2022, an agreement with the Bovensiepen family allowed it to continue operating independently until December 2025, with its final standalone model launched last year.
With the transition complete, the brand will now operate as BMW Alpina, positioned as an exclusive standalone marque within the BMW Group alongside BMW, Mini, and Rolls-Royce. BMW has stated that Alpina will retain its core identity, focusing on maximum performance and ride comfort. This positioning will clearly differentiate BMW Alpina from the performance-focused BMW M division.
Although no future products have been announced yet, BMW says the initial phase will focus on brand activation before revealing model plans and timelines. Design leadership will be handled by former Polestar design chief Max Missoni, while the newly introduced brandmark draws inspiration from an asymmetrical Alpina logo from the 1970s. Overall, BMW Alpina’s new chapter aims to blend its rich heritage with a refined, modern direction under full BMW ownership.
