Is India’s most expensive scooter worth the price tag ?

BMW Motorrad has unveiled its premier electric scooter, the CE 04, on Wednesday in the Indian market. The BMW CE 04 will be available in India as a CBU, with a price tag of Rs 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries are set to begin in September.

Labeled as India’s most expensive electric scooter, the BMW CE 04 features an 8.5kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of up to 130 kilometers on a single charge. Included with the CE 04 is a complimentary 2.3kW home charger, which charges the battery from 0 to 80 percent in 3 hours and 30 minutes. Additionally, an optional BMW Wallbox charger is available.

The CE 04 also holds the title of the highest power-rated electric two-wheeler in India. Its liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet synchronous motor produces 42PS and 62 Nm of peak torque. The e-scooter can reach a top speed of 120 km/h and accelerates from 0-50kmph in just 2.6 seconds. The CE 04 also weighs 231kg, to put that into comparison, the R 1300 GS weighs in at just 6kg more than the CE 04.

The mechanical components of the CE 04 are integrated into a single-piece tubular steel main frame. Standard features include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with a double disc brake at the front and a single disc at the rear. The BMW CE 04 is also equipped with Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and offers three riding modes: Eco, Rain, and Road.

Riders can enhance their experience with optional packages. The ‘Comfort Package’ includes heated grips and a comfort backrest seat, while the ‘Dynamic Package’ adds riding modes pro, headlight pro, ABS pro, adaptive headlights, and a daytime running light.

The design is notably futuristic with the aim to blend practicality with style. The elongated form accommodates a slim energy storage unit in the underfloor assembly and a compact drivetrain. Standard features include LED lighting, 15-inch alloy wheels, and a floating single-piece seat. The 10.25-inch TFT color split screen comes with Bluetooth connectivity.
