One brings diesel power to the 7 Series lineup while the other is the pinnacle of a performance electric BMW sedan

The latest iteration of the BMW 7 Series and the all-new i7 have been around in India since January this year and with the festive season in full swing, BMW has decided to add more flavours to the flagship sedans. This comes in the form of the launch of the 7 Series 740d M Sport at Rs 1.81 crore and the i7 M70 at Rs 2.5 crore (all prices ex-showroom).

So what’s different about the 7 Series 740d M Sport? Well, it essentially brings diesel power to the top-shelf sedan, running a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder motor pushing 286PS and 650Nm. All this is enough for a  0-100kmph sprint in 6.0 seconds and an electronically limited 250kmph top speed.

The i7 M70 on the other hand is the first electric M car to be launched in India and is the most powerful all-electric M model ever. This is thanks to a 660PS / 1,100Nm AWD electric powertrain, hitting 0-100kmph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 250kmph (electronically limited). It also packs adaptive air suspension, performance brakes, and active roll stabilisation. A 105.7kWh battery pack helps offer a WLTP-claimed range between 488-560km. There’s also a more striking presence with a two-tone paint job of black on top and copper below, complemented by sporty 21-inch alloy wheels. M-specific bits include side skirts, a rear spoiler, as well as a more aggressive rear bumper and diffuser.

Inside, the performance electric sedan debuts BMW’s new iDrive OS 8.5 infotainment tech. Basically, it is the same sleek curved display but now gets an improved menu which is meant to be simpler and faster to operate.

With these two launches, the BMW 7 Series and i7 get additional options to choose from, which should further enhance the appeal of Bavaria’s flagship sedans in the country.
