The Toyota Vellfire has sat in a nice little niche segment as a luxury van. But now, that’s all set to change as Lexus has brought the LM to India. While prices aren’t out yet, the carmaker has begun accepting bookings for the luxury van that redefines opulence for a Lexus model in India.
From the looks of it, you may think that this is just Lexus’ version of the Toyota Vellfire considering how similar their silhouettes are. But Lexus does have its own identity, evident from the fact that it’s got a massive spindle front grille. That aside, the way the connected tail lamps meet each other further exemplifies the premium look.
The point of a luxury van like this is for the chauffeur driven and it comes as no surprise that all the fun is at the rear cabin. It starts with a massive 48-inch widescreen TV as well as a separate front and rear audio output system. There’s also heated armrests and wide Ottoman seats that ooze opulence. Other niceties include 64-colour ambient lighting as well as a range of active safety assists.
While we are yet to know what will power the India-spec LM, the model sold abroad can be specced with either a 2.4-litre turbo mild-hybrid petrol engine or a 2.5-litre self-charging strong-hybrid petrol motor.
The Lexus LM will be offered in four and seven-seater layouts. As far as prices go, expect it to retail at a premium over the Toyota Vellfire that is already offered at a sky-high range of Rs 1.2 crore to Rs 1.3 crore (ex-showroom).
