Dell has unveiled two new laptops, the Dell 14S and 16S, which feature a compact form factor and promise performance, on-device AI, and all-day battery life. With capable hardware, the range focuses on delivering faster performance, be it content creation or daily productivity.
The Dell 14S and 16S are powered by the latest Series 3 Intel Core Ultra processor, which is customisable up to Intel Core Ultra 9 386H, and feature built-in AI acceleration and up to 50 TOPS NPU. Dell claims that the 14S delivers up to 97 percent higher multitasking performance while the 16S delivers up to 59 percent higher performance when multitasking, allowing you to seamlessly switch between apps, creative tools and demanding workloads like editing or rendering. Not only this, but the range is also available with AMD Ryzen AI 400 series processors, which are purpose-built for AI workloads.
Built as Copilot+ PCs, the Dell 14S and 16S bring AI directly to your device without having to be dependent on the cloud. Its intelligent features enhance video calls, system responsiveness and efficiency, without hampering battery life.
In terms of the build, Dell has used refined aluminium for the chassis, which is only 15.3mm in thickness. While the Dell 14S tips the scales at 1.45kg, the Dell 16S weighs 1.76kg, making them easy to carry. You have two colour options – Celestial Blue and Front Blue, while the backlit keyboards feature quick access keys for shortcuts. Not only this, but the airflow path has also been designed to allow sufficient cooling and quiet operation. The laptops have also gone through military-grade testing to ensure ruggedness.
In the display department, the Dell 14S and 16S come with the option of either an FHD+ panel with up to 400 nits of peak brightness or a QHD+ panel with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and 500 nits of peak brightness, 110 percent sRGB colour and Dolby Vision support. For an even better viewing experience, buyers can also opt for the OLED display options delivering deeper blacks, higher contrast and 100 percent DCIP3 colour coverage, along with Dolby Vision and ComfortView Plus, helping reduce strain on your eyes. For audio, you get Dolby Atmos-tuned speakers and Smart Amplifier technology to deliver rich sound and higher volume from the slim package.
Battery life is another plus. Dell says that the 14S can deliver up to 24 hours of battery life (18 hours when streaming), while the 16S turns the tables with 26 hours of streaming and 14 hours of productivity on a single charge.
In terms of pricing, the Dell 14S is priced at $1269.99, while the 16 is priced at $1319.99 in the US, which roughly translates to ₹1.22 lakh and ₹1.27 lakh (as mentioned in the Product Watch section in the June issue of the magazine). However, considering custom duties and the global RAM shortage, the prices would surely vary upon its launch in India.
