Maruti Suzuki has commissioned seven automated driving test tracks (ADTT) in Tamil Nadu as a part of the road safety initiative under the car maker’s corporate social responsibility program (CSR).
The test tracks have been developed in collaboration with the state transport department. Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the facilities via a video conference. The ADTTs are located in the regional transport offices in Coimbatore, Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Sivagangai, Dindigul and Tiruchirapalli. The automated driving tests are for both two-wheeler and light motor vehicles.
The initiative comes as a part of the agreement between Maruti and the state’s transport department, which is aimed to set up ten automated driving test tracks across Tamil Nadu. Maruti Suzuki completed the automation in just 150 days for the ten tracks.
The automated test tracks use high-definition cameras, video analysis, RFID scanners, facial recognition system and integrated information technology to assess without any or minimal human intervention.
