Yamaha showcased the EC-06 late last year alongside many other scintillating products. And after launching the XSR 155 a few months back, Yamaha has launched its first EV in India at ₹1.68 lakh ex-showroom. This new EV is the result of Yamaha India collaborating with River, the Bengaluru-based EV maker. The EC-06 is based on River’s Indie electric scooter, and it is powered by an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) with a peak output of 6.7kW or 9.1PS and a peak torque of 26Nm.

It comes with a 4 kWh fixed battery pack that has a claimed range of 169km. Yamaha is also offering a three-year or 30,000km warranty on the battery pack. The battery pack can be charged entirely using a 16A home plug in just eight hours. The EC-06’s battery and motor are IP67 certified, and the other electronics are IP65 rated.

The EC-06 comes with three riding modes, Eco, Standard and Power, and also a reverse gear. The EC-06 features 200mm front and rear disc brakes with a combined braking system. Being a more utilitarian option, the EC-06 features a colour LCD with a speedometer, battery status, riding modes, and connectivity options. However, it does get LED headlamps and tail lamps.

Yamaha is the last of the Japanese big four to join the electric party in India, with only Kawasaki missing out on the action. Kawasaki does have the e-1, an electric motorcycle, but it would be an expensive affair if it decides to bring it in. However, Yamaha will launch more EVs in the country, and the next offering on the cards is the Aerox E, based on the ICE-powered Aerox. We cannot wait for that one to show up now.
