Tarun Garg has become the first-ever Indian to take charge of the topmost position at Hyundai Motors India Ltd (HMIL). He assumed this position from today, i.e. January 01, 2026. He is the first Indian national to assume this position in the 29-year innings of the company, since it began operations in 1996.
Garg brings with him over 32 years of experience. Prior to this current appointment, he served as the Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai India. His earlier roles at Hyundai’s Indian operation included his stint as the Head of Sales, Service, and Marketing. During his tenure at these positions, the company achieved record sales numbers. Hyundai also completed India’s largest initial public offering (IPO) in 2024 under his stewardship.
Before joining Hyundai India, Garg held various positions at Maruti Suzuki, where his last responsibility was the role of Executive Director of Marketing, Logistics, Parts, and Accessories. Garg has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious Delhi College of Engineering, now known as the Delhi Technological University. He has also done an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow.
