Electric motorcycles were a very new concept back in 2019. The Revolt RV400 thus seemed
very lucrative as India’s first electric motorcycle, especially as an alternative to traditional
commuter motorcycles. The RV400 and its iterations have enjoyed reasonable success,
especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, appealing to those looking for a cost-effective way to
commute. And Revolt has now launched the RV BlazeX, as a more affordable proposition,
with the same powertrain as the flagship RV400.
The BlazeX looks like a traditional commuter with its round headlamp and flyscreen and the
long, one-piece seat and traditional-looking grab handle. The ‘tank’ holds the removable
battery pack just like in the RV400 and the bike also runs on the same 17-inch wheels. Fit-
finish levels are average, especially the way the switches operate and the way the flap
opens to let you take the battery out. The charging socket sits on the right and could do with
a better-quality cover too. Overall build quality could thus be better.
The bike is equipped with a 6.0-inch LCD display that offers lots of information. You also get
three riding modes – Eco, City and Sport – besides Bluetooth connectivity, geo-fencing and
OTA updates. Seat height is accessible at 790mm and cushioning is good, and the
suspension can now handle up to 250kg. The BlazeX uses a new electric motor that puts out
4.1kW (or 5.5PS) along with 45Nm at the motor. The battery pack though is the same
3.24kWh unit as the RV400. Claimed range is 150km per charge, so one can expect 110-
120km in the real world. The standard charger recharges the battery to 80 percent in three
and half hours, while an optional fast charger cuts that down to 1 hour, 20 minutes.
Claimed top speed is 85kmph and acceleration in Sport mode is quick. We only rode the
BlazeX around a karting track where it impressed with its acceleration and instant torque
delivery. That said, throttle responses aren’t very progressive and feel jerky. The suspension
(telescopic forks and dual shock absorbers) offered a confident feel around the tight circuit.
The BlazeX uses 240mm discs at both ends and does not get ABS, but is equipped with a
combined braking system instead. The bike is priced at ₹ 1.14 lakh making it an enticing
proposition given the potential savings on fuel expenses. That said, overall quality and the
bike’s small size might just limit its appeal.
